Marriage is a covenant relationship established by God, designed to reflect His love and commitment to His people. Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” It’s a sacred union where a husband and wife commit to love, honor, and serve one another as an act of worship to God. Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church, and wives are encouraged to respect their husbands as unto the Lord.

Marriage is designed to glorify God, provide companionship, and establish a foundation for raising children in the faith. It’s also a picture of the Gospel—Christ’s sacrificial love for His bride, the Church. It’s not always easy, but it’s a relationship that refines and grows us into Christlikeness.

If you’re preparing for marriage, start by seeking premarital counseling. This helps you build a strong biblical foundation for your relationship. On your wedding day, you will exchange vows before God, family, and friends, committing to honor the covenant of marriage.

Below, you will find resources to help you get started.

Planning Your Wedding at Calvary Reno-Sparks

If you would like to be married at Calvary Reno-Sparks, here’s what you need to know:

Marriage Policies

  • Biblical Definition of Marriage

We believe that marriage is between one man and one woman (Mark 10:6-9). Our pastors will only officiate biblical marriages and will not perform ceremonies outside of this belief.

  • Spiritual Commitment

A wedding at Calvary Reno-Sparks is a worship service. Therefore, all music, vows, and elements of the ceremony should reflect a Christ-honoring atmosphere.

  • Marriage License

Your original marriage license must be submitted 7 days before the wedding. The officiating pastor will file it after the ceremony.

Restrictions

  • No alcohol, smoking, or vulgar language is allowed on church property.

  • Music selections must be worshipful—secular songs are not permitted.

  • All decorations must be pre-approved, and cleanup is the responsibility of the couple.
